Visas et permis de séjour — Allemands
Ce que les ressortissants allemands doivent savoir en particulier.

German nationals moving to Mauritius use the standard Economic Development Board (EDB) routes — there is no Germany-specific scheme. English and French dominate daily life; German is not widely spoken, so the international-school and expat networks matter more for German-speaking families.
Entry and first step
German passport holders can enter visa-free for up to 90 days as visitors. Use this to scout, then apply for the correct long-term permit rather than living on visitor status.
The routes that fit most Germans
- Occupation Permit (Professional) — with a Mauritian employment contract above the salary threshold.
- Occupation Permit (Investor / Self-employed) — for founders and investors in a Mauritian company.
- Premium Visa — well suited to German remote workers and long-stay retirees earning from Germany; one year, renewable.
- Residence Permit (Retired) — for over-50s transferring a qualifying monthly sum.
- Residence through property — an approved-scheme purchase (PDS/Smart City) above the threshold confers residence.
Documents
A German police clearance (polizeiliches Führungszeugnis), apostilled, plus proof of funds and, for professionals, your contract. German documents will typically need a certified translation into English or French. Complete your Abmeldung (deregistration) in Germany at the right time — it interacts with tax residence (see the tax guide).
Confirm current EDB thresholds before applying, and coordinate the Abmeldung date with your tax adviser.
